New Wave Wine Tour, March 15
1997
Menu for the "New Wave Wine Tour" featured four
winery's, two from California and two from Italy. The four wineries will
feature new varietals.
We thought that we should create some interesting food matches
to go along with the new wines. Here is a list of wine producers with the
two wines they poured and our "New Wave" food
matches.
- Roberto Pighin from the Fratelli Pighin, Friuli, Italy
poured two pinot grigio's, a Grave-del -Friuli and one from the Collio region
- Food Match: Marinated Caribbean conch salad
- Kathy Benziger from the Benziger Family Winery, Sonoma, CA.
poured Pinot Noir and a proprietary wine called "White
Burgundy"
- Food Match: Seared giant sea scallops with bowtie pasta.
- Alberto Chiarlo from the Michele Chiarlo Winery, Piedmont,
Italy
poured a Barbera d'Asti and a full bodied Barolo Rocche di Castiglione.
- Food Match: Minorcan beef tenderloin
- Joseph Phelps from the Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Napa, CA.
poured the Rhone style wines, Le Mistral and Syrah.
- Food Match, Veal with wild mushroom with blackbeans and wild
rice
The tasting started at 12:00 p.m. in the new dining room and cost
$22.50 for this great event.
This was a great opportunity to meet four great wine producers and
ask questions as each of the wine owners talked about their prospective
wines.
Famous participants included:

Nancy DeGayner and WROD's Shirley Welch

Occasionally, WNDB's Kelly McCarthy trades in her microphone for a glass of
wine from Norwood's.

Karen Clancy and DeAnn Parker

Perhaps you'd like to look at the tasting notes from: Dick Brown, wine
writer for the Jacksonville Times Union and local wine radio show host;
Scott Cook, Norwood's Wine Manager; and Karen Clancy of the famous Clancy's
restaurant.
